A Monday morning hit-and-run crash in Georgetown that sent a 12-year-old to the hospital is under investigation, according to Delaware State Police.

At about 11 a.m. on July 5, troopers responded to a collision involving a truck and an ATV. Police said troopers learned from witnesses that a flatbed truck was pulling a trailer south in the area of 18000 Shingle Point Road as a red Honda Recon ATV entered the road from a private driveway.

The truck’s driver tried to avoid colliding with the ATV by moving into the northbound lane, police said, but ended up hitting the back of the Honda Recon.

Police said the collision caused a 12-year-old girl, who was a rear passenger in the ATV, to be ejected, landing on the asphalt pavement of Shingle Point Road.
