As communities worldwide contend with the impacts of climate change, including more frequent flooding and coastal erosion, heatwaves, and wildfires, a critical piece of the puzzle has become educating stakeholders in insightful and practical ways. The first speaker, Dr. Anna Queiroz, shared the groundbreaking research from Virtual Human Interaction Lab at Stanford on how virtual reality and immersive technologies can help promote prosocial behavior change, environmental, and ocean literacy. Next, Dr. Juliano Calil highlighted the main findings and lessons learned from recent projects focused on conservation, coastal risks, urban heat, and wildfires. These projects are being deployed at multiple locations, including Turner Station, MD, Santa Cruz, CA, Long Beach, CA, Paradise, CA, and Cleveland, OH. His work was showcased at multiple media outlets, including Forbes Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, and NPR.

This California Coastal Resilience Network webinar was recorded on September 16, 2021. Panelists were: Dr. Anna Queiroz, post-doctoral researcher at the Virtual Human Interaction Lab at Stanford and postdoctoral fellow at the Lemann Center at the Graduate School of Education at Stanford & Dr. Juliano Calil, Senior Fellow at the Center for the Blue Economy, Adjunct Professor at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies, and cofounder of Virtual Planet Technologies.
