The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating after a “suspicious item” was found in Georgetown this morning.
The Georgetown Police Department was called to a construction site in the 22000 block of Dupont Boulevard around 8:30 a.m. and the Delaware State Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit was called to the scene to assist.
Georgetown Police Department Det. Joey Melvin said they found a “suspicious item” that “looked like a pipe bomb,” but he could not confirm its contents.
“The exact components of this object are under investigation to determine if [it was] an explosive device,” said Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael G. Chionchio.
There were no injuries and no damage to any property, according to Chionchio.
