National Folk Festival 2021 draws big crowd to downtown Salisbury

by DrewLUD

The thumping of drums, song of a fiddle and bursts of laughter could be heard in downtown Salisbury on Saturday afternoon.

The 80th National Folk Festival set up camp in Salisbury for the third time from Sept. 10-12.

The festival drew in big crowds as hundreds of people gathered for the celebration of American culture.

This weekend was the first time Salisbury resident Melissa Kubacki had attended the National Folk Festival. Kubacki moved to Salisbury in 2019. The festival was canceled last year due to the pandemic.

The Savoy Family Cajun Band performs at the 80th National Folk Festival Friday, Sept. 10, 2021, at the TidalHealth Stage in Salisbury, Maryland.

Kubacki and her family biked to the festival. She said they are always looking for fun activities to do outdoors with their 3-year-old daughter.

The festival drew in the young and old, with families, college students and many more in attendance

Over the three-day period, the festival features musical and dance performances from a plethora of cultures and styles. Additionally, festival vendors offered many different regional and ethnic foods, drinks and products.
