Scooter rider killed in Quantico crash

Maryland State Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash Sunday that killed one person.

At about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, troopers from the Maryland State Police Salisbury Barrack responded to the 4500 block of Whitehaven Road in Quantico, for a report of a single-vehicle crash involving an electric-propelled scooter, MSP said Tuesday.

According to a preliminary investigation, the vehicle was traveling on Whitehaven Road when the driver, for unknown reasons, lost control of the scooter, struck a tree and was ejected from the vehicle, police said. The victim, a male, was declared deceased at the scene.

No other injuries were reported. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
