A member of a crew that was working on a roof in Ocean City over the weekend was taken to a Baltimore hospital in critical condition after falling more than 25 feet.

The work crew was installing metal flashing for the roof of a building on 8th Street on Saturday when a piece of flashing made contact with an energized power line as it was being carried up a ladder, according to Ocean City spokesperson Jessica Waters.

The individual carrying the piece of flashing was thrown more than 25 feet and landed in an open trash trailer that was parked on the road, Waters wrote in an email.

The Ocean City Fire Department posted to Facebook just before 6:30 p.m. Saturday that the area from 6th Street to 8th Street on Baltimore Avenue was closed as first responders were handling a medical emergency and reported building fire.
